thanks for the reply, i tried your suggestion but that didn't fix the problem. will uninstall and reinstall airtime and let you know if that fixes it.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and yes webmin is also installed on the system. What are the options to avoid a repeat in the future? Unfortunately I don't remember the output of the upgrade process.

It is 1.8.2-6, I am sticking to deb so it's the one available currently in the repository. I did have a backup of the database so not much harm was done. But I had to import the database backup first before I reinstalled the airtime.deb. …
