Airtime fresh install: No sound via stream?!
  • Dear all,

Another problem I hope someone might help me with!

I have a fresh Airtime installation running on a Debian 7 vps.
All looks ok through the online interface via Chrome or IE.
System status all ok. Stream status ok.
I can upload some files. Schedule a show only when I want to actually listen to what I am streaming I cannot hear anything.
I click on listen and a small popup comes up but no sound coming out of my speakers.

And when I share the stream URL I get this URL to share:
But I cannot connect there (Webpage not available.)

Could this be related to https issues? I haven't managed to install the https certificates correctly.
(I followed this tutorial https://wiki.debian.org/Self-Signed_Certificate but apache won't restart after that... So I gave up on this for now.)

Any other ideas where or how to check why I am not hearing anything?

    Thanks and regards, Rob

  • http://92.48.231.143:8000/ should display the status page. It does not.
Icecast is screwed up or your vps firewall is blocking port 8000 or the firewall in the router.
I would disable any firewalls, just for a test and see if it works then.

    I did a quick test:
    open port finder
    Remote Address
Closed Port 8000 is closed on 92.48.231.143

No longer using Airtime or Libretime.
  • Hi John,

    Thanks for your reply!

I cannot open ports on my vps myself yet.
So I had to ask vps support and got the confirmation from them before that they opened port 8000. Should have checked better.

When I just ran netstat to check I saw port 8000 listed as listening.
But have to little experience to work out the full result of the netstat below.

Will let them check to redo their work to make sure that the port is open.
I used an open port finder myself and got same result as you. Port is NOT open.

Sorry for wasting your time ;)

  • Not wasted at all. We found the smoking gun!

No longer using Airtime or Libretime.
  • Hi all,

    IT WORKS
Just to let you know that in the end my VPS provider managed to open port 8000 correctly.
And immediately we had a live audible radio station :)
(This took us, complete Linux noobs, over a month, including switching to Debian from Ubuntu, so we were very excited and happy to actually hear our own radiostation!)

    CHECK OPEN PORTS
This tool is very easy to actually check if supposedly open ports can be connected to on your server from the internet. I should have used it in the first place. I leave it here for easy access if others are as sloppy as me and don't actually check themselves thoroughly ;)

    NEXT STEP
We are now starting to upload and schedule.
The whole process were the longest 60 seconds of my life ;)
(Referring to the online manual where it states 'On air in 60 seconds!'.....)

    Thanks,

    Rob & Roy
