Airtime fails to play
  • Hi,

I've installed the latest Airtime version, it was a clean install, and I encounter a problem. I leave the stream playing with the fallback (no shows yet, I'm doing private tests for the functionality of Airtime) I have on the ls_script.liq and at some points under unknown circumstances, liquidsoap stops sending sound. The metadata are changing correctly, RAM & CPU usage indicate that liquidsoap is working, but I hear no sound. I have to either restart liquidsoap or turn off and turn on the "Scheduled Play" as a source stream from the administration. If I do one of those 2 things, everything work. It may take 2 days to fail again, but it does eventually.

The only thread I found I could relate to, is this: http://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/15111/airtime-audio-fails-daily/p1
But I can't do anything since I'm using the latest version of all software included with airtime (liquidsoap 1.1.1, etc).

Any ideas? I could reinstall it from the beginning but it is on a VPS and I have already uploaded 1GB of music, which would take me 2 days to reupload, so I would like to have reinstalling this as a last resort.

    Thank you,
    Dimitris

If its bandwidth why not just create a master->relay to Icecast and pump one stream to the VPS for listener to connect to.

I say this to say that the biggest problem I notice here is VPS. maybe and just maybe a talk with the folks over Airtime Pro will solve a lot of headache.

  • The real benefit of using a VPS is the price. It costs significantly less than renting a dedicated server, or having a computer 24x7x365 open at your home or office.
Also, you don't have to deal with problems like power/internet outages, because virtually all providers have backup plans for those cases (that applies to dedicated servers as well).
The VPS I am using has airtime installed on it and nothing more. Everything else (streams, websites etc) is hosted elsewhere.
And no, Airtime Pro is not an option, it's too expensive for my pocket right now.

I have used Airtime on this VPS before, and never had any problems. So there is something else going on :)

I'm wondering if you have been using live streaming a lot?

  • Hmmm... I have connected as "Master Source" 4 times, for 10-20 minutes each time tops. But I haven't streamed for 3-4 days.

For now, you can restart liquidsoap by:
    sudo service airtime-liquidsoap restart

    It might be liquidsoap problem.

  • That's what I'm doing, but as I'm using shoutcast instead of icecast, it's going to be a problem.
Is there any way to detect silence and make "scheduled playlist" go off and on again? Using some cron job or something like that...

Pira works great! I use it for 2 yrs now and couldn't think of working without it!
We use it on Windows only, for Linux you need Wine or similar.
