MySql is too big
you won't have a problem if you clear the Requests and Sessions tables. ArticleIndex is used for full text search

Will the Zen theme be fully supported in Newscoop 4.0?
RC3 contains "The Custodian" theme. Try it. This theme is adopted for newscoop 4.0.

actually no more additional requirements. Just as suggestion should be used some opcode cache module like xcache or apc.

icecast on port 80
Since icecast stream is a http protocol you can use also any http-proxy server. Nginx works fine with icecast stream.

It's very easy. Just specify ServerName site_name_here in each virtual host section and reload apache. Also you should specify all alternate site names via ServerAlias site_name_2 site_name_3

actually it's enough fast to me. I see some disadvantages in page design: 1. too many css files (10) 2. too many js files (26) 3. too many images (127) 4. too many iframes (8) In addition gzip is not enabled on apache server.

changing templates on the fly
you can use this template switcher for home/section/article (own switcher for each type). Also this approach could be used to differentiate templates by languages or by site name (ie mobile.domain, www.domain)

of course it could be any other file name. It doesn't matter. The main problem is die shouldn't be used in templates. In some cases it generates an errors due to die stops standard code workflow.
