    hi samy,

we encourage you to keep the "powered by" notice. by doing so you
promote our open source effort. this way more people use the software,
give feedback and increase security, stability and make the product
feature rich. this - as you are experiencing right now - makes our
products so good that you decided to use them. keeping the notice is a
small addition to our effort. we appreciate your support.

thanks for checking with us, i see this as a good community gesture.

all the best and good luck with our software,

    micz

    hi samy,

i can not give you legal advice. that's one thing Sourcefabric Services
does not have to offer free of charge ;)

we will not file a legal battle against you. i don't see that happen,
and i don't know who would win anyway. and it won't be fun... how about
this: put the "powered by" and "designed by" only into your imprint /
    impressum?

in return, let me ask you: would you like to give us a short statement
for our testimonials? it looks like you have a few interesting and
convincing things to say about using Newscoop.

we would be happy to promote your work that way on our site and have you
promote us with your experience. we promise: we will not remove the link
to your site when using your testimonial ;)

    all the best, micz

    Hi,

okay - so I have noticed that there are people searching specifically for "powered by Newscoop". And not a few either. At least a dozen or so visits happened over the last few days like that.

I hate this. It means that hackers potentially look for sites having a weakness prior to the webmaster even knowing or the software engineers possibly even having a solution.

I'm that satisfied with Newscoop that I certainly want to advertise the software. However, not at such a cost. What is the view on replacing the text with an image?

    Andel
  • Hi Andel,

That will be me and some of the other members of our team - I set up a google alert for 'powered by Newscoop' as I'm interested in who might be downloading and testing the product. As we don't require any email address on download, it can sometimes be a little difficult to trace who is using and testing the software.

So, while I always encourage caution regarding security, it's much more likely these searches come from the Sourcefabric team than hackers.

    Best, Adam
