[campcaster-dev] Two Computer Setup - testing begins
  • Hi,

Seeing as the Gstreamer 0.10 port is mostly done (still needs lots of
testing, though), I've tried to start on testing the two-computer setup.

You'll see that I've made updates to the two-computer setup wiki page
    (http://code.campware.org/projects/campcaster/wiki/TwoComputerSetup) but
    I'm running into some problems.

While NFS is a real pain to set up - especially if your office has a
firewall - I eventually got the server's storageServer directory to mount
on the client computer. But I'm now running into problems with the setup.

First, in Studio when I set the remote server's location, I assume this
also means I need to update the path (it isn't mentioned on the wiki page)
to point to the remote server's storageServer directory. The same goes for
all places in the two-computer setup where you need to change the server
location from localhost to the new IP address.

What's odd is this: the search works, correctly returning search results.
But playback now does not work on either the server or the client, and I'm
not able to upload files. The following error is thrown on both the server
    side and the client side:

XML-RPC method 'locstor.storeAudioClipOpen' returned error message:
    805 - xr_storeAudioClipOpen: MetaData::regenerateXmlFile: cannot open for
    write
    (/home/cc-studio/src/campcaster/src/modules/storageServer/var/stor/7da/7da933c9a29f1896.xml)

Maybe I'll try changing the paths on the client side back to what they were
before. Could this be a problem with permissions on the server directory?

Anyway, please check out the updated Two Computer Setup wiki page and feel
free to add your changes and tips. I'll be adding things there
intermittently for the next few days.

  • Hi Doug,

The 2-computer setup is a bit of a hack; in particular, the path to
the storageServer directory must be _exactly the same_ on the server
and client computer. That's why the howto does not mention changing
    it.

    Regards,
    Ferenc
