[livesupport-dev] Project Milestones
  • Sava,

Sangita and I have started to produce final assets for the live
support app and are planning to make a delivery this friday of the
basic palette elements so you guys can start playing around with
    them.

Sangita and I would both like to know what the milestones are now,
what are deadlines are, when you'd like us to show up in Prague
(January?) I think a solid week working together in the same room
would make it much easier to wrap up any loose ends there might
    be at that time.

Is there an updated project schedule somewhere we could look at?

This would be really helpful for us, as we try to integrate this work
    into our thesis work here.

    Thanks a lot,

    Charles

as for us, the GUI team, we'd be delighted to get the following as soon
    as possible:

    - a schematic of all (or the most important) GUI windows
    - later, the actual visual design, with all the bitmaps needed to
    reproduce it

the schematics for the pages is needed to even start with the GUI
development... And we should've started it already 2 weeks ago.

  • To the GUI team,

The styleguide that we sent out on September 30 was supposed the schematic
of the design that you are asking for - we sent it out then to get feedback about
its usefulness to you guys, so we could get your approval, revise it and include
    the rest of the palettes.

Based on your response we believed that this document met your requirements
as far as design documentation goes. We were going to go ahead with finishing
    it and producing bitmaps.

If this styleguide is not sufficient in its format, please let us know so we can
rework it for your purposes. We'll do what we can to make it as useful to you as
    possible.

We started producing graphics this past monday, in gif format. We are now
goign to recreate them as 24 bit png, with transparency, as per your request.
Please let us know if this is the format you need.

here is the styleguide again in its current format:

    http://a.parsons.edu/~livesupport/styleguide/styleguide2.pdf

this contains descriptions of the library and the live mode along with most basic
elements. If revisions need to be made to the live mode palette based on
Robert's comments, we can do those next week. Please let us know if all of
    Robert's comments should be implemented.

Also, visual representations of all palettes are available here:

    http://a.parsons.edu/~livesupport/designs/

the live mode design does not reflect Robert's most recent coments. We can
revise this for next week based on your approval.

today we will be sendng you basic palette elements so you can build a test
palette for us to look at, to make sure everything looks right visually. We are
producing as many of the assets as we can immediately, and expect to be
making new ones and revising old ones for the remainder of the project, as
    needed.

Good luck, and let us know if there's anything we can do to help you out,

And it is good so. Maybe we're using the word 'schematic' a bit
differently. I understood your document to be a design guide, as its
    title also said.

What I'd be looking for is a _full_ description of _each_ window that
the GUI will have. (Full, in terms of UI functionality.) Something like:

login window: has two input fields (userid, password), has the following
texts: 'userid', 'password', 'submit', and a basic graphical layout for
    the window.

yes, PNGs are great, thanks a lot!

yes, and it's a good styleguide, IMHO.

these pages look great, this is the thing I've been waiting for. what
I'd need as a such images for _all_ windows we're going to have.
including login window, file browswer (if we want to have our own file
browser), etc. I'd rather have you guys, who have background in UIs and
usability in general to design the layout for all the windows, as us
programmers would make quite awful ones...

    great!

Thanks for all this input. I think we're on the right track. Sorry for
my amigous use of the word 'schematic', let's call what I've meant
    'layout'...

    Charles,

Now that you have Akos's approval, please move on to incorporate all of
Robert's comments into the live mode GUI.

    Keep the great work,

    Sava
