Audio in Airtime sounds "too compressed"
  • Hi everyone,

I am enjoying testing Airtime with my own server, and I really like the software and how it's been thought out.

I am having a poor sound quality when broadcasting in AAC 48 Kb/s, which is definitely related to Airtime or Liquidsoap as when I connect to my Icecast server using the demo of another software everything is fine.

The sound is not really natural, there is too much compression, very little "breathing" as it were.

Which files can I look into to reduce this compression and broadcast a much nicer, natural sound?

    Thanks!

    Kind Regards,

    Fabio

Have you tried turning up the replay gain on stream settings to like 10db.?
then you can also add a simple  little " nrj"  at about line 230 in the ls_script put this s =nrj(s) make sure you turn down your speakers.

if you enable replay gain you will get a reduced bass but like I say add the "nrj"

  • Thanks my friend for the exhaustive explanation!

I am having a strange problem, though, when installing the liquidsoap plugins.

I am using Debian 7 Wheezy, it would seem that the plugins require liquidsoap version 1.1.1 and I have no idea how to update liquidsoap itself.

If I installed anew with Debian Jessie (as I am still in test phase, not broadcasting yet) would it be recommended at this point?

    Thanks again for your advice.
  • If that is 48k Stereo I am not surprised.
If that is the Liquidsoap's compiled-in AAC+ I am not surprised either.

No longer using Airtime or Libretime.
