I'll be the first to admit, I'm a Linux n00b so forgive my idiocy, but I'm having problems installing Airtime.
I've tried the automated method using apt-get (I think this installs 2.5.1?) and all seems to install well, but I do not get a prompt during the setup for admin password, and therefore I can't seem to log in!
So I thought I'd try the manual install of 2.5.2.1. The blog says about a new GUI/Web based installer but I have no idea how to access it? I've tried running make install but it says nothing to be done?
Any help on getting it installed (either version, I'm not fussed but newer would be better) would be greatly appreciated.
Linux operating systems and application will have a stable release and an unstable release(alpha/beta) with/without updates known as release candidates.
The unstable versions are mostly designed for people who know what they are doing and have more than a basic knowledge of Terminal and linux commands
Stable versions will more likely have fairly well documented manuals. So once you are reading a manual, you are definitely looking at a stable versions.
Stable in the sense its like a chair,it should carry almost any one who sits on it ,but it does not mean it will not break.
I always recommend that you go with the stable,it might not have all the feature of the newer versions but in production you need something stable.
so if you read the manual the installation is well documented (million thanks to Daniel James) and you should find your way through, otherwise have someone with you who is quite familiar with installing software for linux.

So, it was a total noob error I hadn't pointed my deb to sourcefabric trusty, I'd left it at what the example had stated!
Anyway, I know have a working Airtime install and can successfully log in to it. Airtime connects to the Icecast2 output stream, but I can't seem to get Mixxx to connect to any of the inputs.
I've set the username and mount point to master and reflected this in Mixxx, with the same port id, but for some reason it won't connect. Do I need to change any more settings in the icecast.xml or is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks.
