Hello I am wondering if there is a way I can use a newscoop value in php
for example:

Using {{ $gimme->article->name }} value, and send it to a php variable.

I want to do something like this:

{{php}}

$_SESSION['variable'] = {{ $gimme->article->name }} ;

{{/php}}

use $this or $template instead of $smarty in example below.
