Line In?
  • Hi All!

Just started using Airtime this evening, been playing with it for an hour an I'm very impressed so far!

There's one thing I'd like to do and I'm unsure how I might do it.  Any answers to how, or thoughts on how I could get round this would be welcome!

I want to take an audio feed in through the line in on the PC that's running Airtime.  This will be my news feed and so I need to switch to it at the exact second, which is why I am keen to take the feed through line in.  I don't want any delays by taking the feed in some other way, encoding it and then streaming to Airtime.  I need the top of hour sweeper to end at 09:00:00 exactly and then immediately switch to the line in source.

Is there a way to do this?  I haven't been able to discover a solution yet.

    Many thanks

you can't do that for now at the exact second (only the minute) and also due to latency problems (you will have few seconds of latency...)
anyway, you can do a try :
create a show, into "record & rebroadcast", "record from line in" starting it at 08:00

I am also waiting for these features.
go to the developers-section and vote for the "exact-to-the-second-feature!
    http://dev.sourcefabric.org/browse/CC-4681

and this is the ticket for Line-In. http://dev.sourcefabric.org/browse/CC-1956 (this one is planned for 2.4 and needs no more votes)

there are workarounds for this atm. if you're interested in, tell me.

  • Hi!  Thanks for the reply and sorry it's taken a while to post something in return.

Actually, to the second timing isn't really necessary as I would like to be able to flip over to a 'line in' source at the very start of every hour.  So, as long as the source could be chosen at the very start of the first minute at the start of each hour (i.e. 18:00 and 00 seconds), then this is as accurate as I would need.

    Is that possible?

And even if it is not possible to be accurate, is there a feature that allows you to schedule Airtime to switch over to a line in source?  The replies above suggest it is possible, but I haven't found this feature in my early experiements.  Any advice welcome!

    thanks!

Airtime currently doesn't support physical Line-In. This feature should be available with v2.4.

For a Workaround you have to use the Airtime-Input-Streams in combination with a PC running an Icecast-Client (like butt) or a Hardware-Streaming-Client like an OggStreamer.

When using a PC => use a built-in application or connect any Line-Input-Device (Mixer, Laptop) to the PC and stream with butt to Airtime.

I arrange our Live-Studio like this ATM. With a little delay, but it works flawlessly with our OggStreamer.

  • Thanks for that tip!  Sounds like it's a bit too much set up for me, but will bear it in mind in case I become desperate in future.

    Thanks!
