[RESOLVED] Installation issue airtime 2.1.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 Server
  • Hello,

I run system Ubuntu Server 12.04 on a remote hosting server. I met an issue with Airtime installation, although I was following command line instructions from your EASY SET UP page. These are the informations and Error message that were displaiyed in my console after I sent this command line :

    sudo software-center airtime-esay-setup.db

    REPLY:

    sudo software-center airtime-easy-setup.deb
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/software-center", line 25, in
    from gi.repository import Gtk, GObject
    File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/importer.py", line 76, in load_module
    dynamic_module._load()
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/module.py", line 224, in _load
    overrides_modules = __import__('gi.overrides', fromlist=[self._namespace])
    File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/overrides/Gtk.py", line 1533, in
    raise RuntimeError("Gtk couldn't be initialized")
    RuntimeError: Gtk couldn't be initialized
    root@vps1XXXXX:~#

On Ubuntu forum, someone told me that software-center need a graphic interface, and that this is the reason why I shoub run UBUNTU DESKTOP iinstead of UBUNTU SERVER. But I do not agree this....

If informations in mentionned files have to be changed, or if some files must be moved to different folders, could you please guide me through this ?

If not, What means "RuntimeError" and what is Gtk ?
Can I skip this error and go ahead with the next command line (install airtime) ?

Please have in mind that I am new to Ubuntu.

    Regards,

  • I have installed airtime using the following command on remote server (ssh only, no gui)
    1. dpkg -i airtime-esay-setup.db

    2. apt-get -f install

  • Hi,

Do you mean that I just need to remotly connect to my Ubuntu Server in ssh and type both these command lines ?

And just to be sure, do you confirm that there is no need to replace Ubuntu Server 12.04 with Unbuntu Desktop before to go with these commands ?

    Thanks,

  • I gave try to install airtime with the command line that I was told above :
    sudo dpkg -i airtime-esay-setup.db

But my terminal returns me the following  error message :

    root@vpsXXXXX:~# sudo dpkg -i airtime-esay-setup.db
dpkg : erreur de traitement de airtime-esay-setup.db (--install) :
ne peut pas accéder à l'archive: No such file or directory
Des erreurs ont été rencontrées pendant l'exécution :

I may have inadvertently skipped a step , so can someone tell me what is missing ?

I try to install Airtime 2.1.3 on system Ubuntu Sever 12.04 Precise Panlogin LTS, and I initially followed instructions in the Airtime dedicated Easy set up page.

Do I maybe have to downgrade to a previous Ubuntu Server version ?
Or Do I have to run Ubuntu desktop instead of Ubuntu Server ?

Having Airtime working in the very next days is crucial to me, so I wish someone may guide me trough installing it.

    Any help ?

using easy setup is not always a good solution...
On your 12.04 ubuntu server version, prefer the normal install way :

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add one of:

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ precise main

    apt-get update

    apt-get install sourcefabric-keyring

    apt-get install postgresql icecast2 airtime

  • An issue remains !

I did follow instructions from the “Automated Installation" page ; but Airtime installation failed because of an this issue :

*** Verifying your system environment, running airtime-check-system ***
    ___
    ___

--There appears to be a problem with your Airtime installation.
    ___
    ___

I have read this sourcefabric wiki page, but it is not helpfull enough to solve the issue.

    I still need help !!!

If you can (because i don't know what you have really installed on your server)
reinstall your server from scratch and follow my last message :D
  • Could the issue result from this possible conflict ?

My Ubuntu server is under domain name http://www.example1.com
I gave my icecast server the hostname http://www.eample2.com

May this cause the issue ?
  • What means reinstall server "from scratch" ?

i don't know if your others threads are identically to this one, but to answer : reinstall your server :D
if you have airtime only on it
  • I already reinstalled Ubuntu server many times (and nothing else) before each attempt to install Airtime.
Each attempt is sold with the same issue.

Any further idea to track this issue ?
