Newscoop 4.0.2
  • I am having real difficulties in installing Newscoop

I have tried installing the files for 4.0.2 but the is a recursive link for /include/smarty/libs that means it crashes the FTP upload

I have tried to install 3.5.5 with php 5.4.5 - install starts to work and fails on install of sample data and setting of admin passwords

Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

    1. Instead of lib symlink you can just duplicate files from /include/smarty  It will be fixed in next release.
    2. newscoop 3.5.5 is not compatible only with php 5.2.x and 5.3.x
  • Andrey on 4.0.2 which files from include/smarty? - do you mean the ones from include/smarty from 3.5.5?

    is 4.0.2 compatible with:
    MySQL version:5.0.92-1~ui60+1
    PHP version:5.4.5

    no, just duplicate from 4.0.2

I know that 3.5.5 is not compatible with php 5.4.x. I guess the same for newscoop 4.
  • how do I duplicate from 4.0.2 I can't open the folder /include/smarty/libs as its a symlink with no files - where do I get the contents of /include/smarty/libs or do I just ignore that folder?
  • The only other php version option I have is:
    MySQL version:5.0.92-1~ui60+1
    PHP version:5.2.17

will this work with 4.0.2 and 3.5.5?

    only 3.5.5
newscoop 4 requires only php 5.3.x
  • I am having some real issues with this ... 5.3.x is not an option for me its 5.2.x or 5.4.x what can I do?

only newscoop 3.5.5 works on php 5.2.x
php 5.4.x is not suitable for any newscoop version
  • will the next version of newscoop be php 5.4 compatible?

I'm not sure. We are following the base linux distros (ubuntu/debian)  and php 5.4.x is not introduced yet.
  • just been speaking with our managed server provides and php 5.3 has been left behing because 5.4 caters for it in the main. But here it doesn't.

Its a little disappointing that 4.0.2 is so specific on platform for php when php has moved on a version more than 1 year ago.

are you likely to fix this problem in the short term?

as I explained the 5.3 is our main php version. Unfortunately while all distros are using 5.3 we are not going to spend time to adapt for php 5.4
  • I guess its back to Joomla for me then - as this is a rather difficult situation. I can't use php5.3 and I need some of the functionality of 4.0.2
