    I currently use wordpress but finding it very slow loading etc. This software seems pretty good, does it run faster?

    What i need as well as news is a directory to list local busines's etc is their such a feature in this?

    it depends on template complexity. You can make fast site or slow but Newscoop uses advanced content caching which allow to accelerate site response up to 50x times.

    you can use current newscoop approach for directories also.
    Sections, topics, full text search allows you to create business directory site as well as news site
