Best Soundcards to Use With Airtime

  • So What is your thoughts on SoundCards to Use as input and Output For Airtime

    The Best Sound Card I have Used since Ubuntu 10.04 is 2496 Audiophille.

    Here is my bias
    • Linux carries superb drivers for it,not like the headache I had with fast track pro and Delta 44
    • Its Cheap ($50-90US)
    • it can carry separate line in and line out
    • it can give 2 channel in 2 channel out
    • its PCI
    • Good Sample Rate,periods and latency
    I think the other Delta products like the 44,66 and 1010 are over kills for me.

    and remember after all the reason I bought one of the 1010, was to test it,"No Like it At All"  so returning it this weekend.Its like the Rolls Royce of all cards and I hate to say I will not be using all it has to give.

    I found also the sabrent usb as a nice,cheap usb ($10USB) if you want two sound card using the internal card also of your system.
    The Behringer UCA222 works nicely and I hate to have to return it but why would I,if I have no use for it now

    Ps.

    These sound cards are based on the VIA Ice1712 chipset aka Envy24 : M-Audio Delta 1010, Delta 1010LT, Delta DiO 2496, Delta 66, Delta 44, Delta 410 and Audiophile 2496. Terratec EWS 88MT, EWS 88D, EWX 24/96, DMX 6Fire, Phase 88. Hoontech Soundtrack DSP 24, Soundtrack DSP 24 Value, Soundtrack DSP 24 Media 7.1. Event Electronics EZ8. Digigram VX442. Lionstracs, Mediastaton. Terrasoniq TS 88. Roland/Edirol DA-2496.

    Just type "Envy24" in the software center and install the drivers [amended based on @Albert Fr below]

     This application displays a level meter for each input and output channel and maintains peak level indicators. This is based on Envy24's hardware peak metering feature. and is good for Monitoring your outputs

  • Yes the internals require either no tweaking at all or little

    If you want a robust solution

    Think about the MAudio deltas or 2496 audiophille

    I'm no agree with you ;-)

    delta 1010 is a great soundcard
    but you need envy24control to use it correctly

    with this card, the sound is really great ;-)

    which drivers are you talking about? A friend of mine has a 2496Audiophile and would love to know!

    My 2 cents about Soundcards:
    In a Studio I absolutely need symmetric Inputs/Outputs with XLR or Jack Plug. No use for Cinch at all.

    Currently we use a Delta 44, in future we want to use a Delta 1010 with ALSA.

    @Albert FR
    do you use it in ALSA mode. or with jack?
    could you share you .asoundrc or asound.conf with me?
    I'd also be very interested in frame-sizes and buffer-times you use with the Delta 1010, as I got no experiences with it so far...

    cheers

    Most of the time an issue is located between keyboard and chair.
  • type 2496 or envy24 in the software center

    its Mudita24 and it serves all the card I listed above

    • Disable the internal card in the bios so you will not have to do any asound configuration.

    I used it with ALSA and the 2496 Audophille

    • do this command

    liquidsoap -v --debug 'input.alsa(bufferize=false)'

    it will give you the settings for the cards

    you should see something similar to this

    [alsa_in(default):3] Samplefreq=44100Hz, Bufsize=1764B, Frame=4B, Periods=55

    Follow my tutorial on inputs on how to set it in the ls_script

    aah, your talking bout mudita24, but this is just a control GUI, no driver.

    afaik, If I want to capture sound of specified Inputs on 1010, I have to compile driver for myself and use .asoundrc or asound.conf
    http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-ice1712

    Or how should I  be able to capture f.e. Input 5&6 paired to stereo-line and output this sound in (almost) realtime? I want to use Live-Studio-Input on Input1&2, BBC-SAT-Input on Input 3&4 and Studio2 on Input 5&6.
    So I have to address to self-created pcm's in .asoundrc or asound.conf looking like this...
    pcm.ice1712_ch12, pcm.ice1712_ch34, pcm.ice1712_ch56, pcm.ice1712_ch78
    see here under "The Naming of PCM Devices" http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Asoundrc

    with .asoundrc looking like this.

    #
    # M-Audio Delta 1010
    #

    pcm.ice1712_capture {
        type dsnoop
        ipc_key 1024
        slave {
            pcm "hw:M1010"
            period_size 0
            buffer_size 65536
            rate 44100
            channels 10
        }
    }

    pcm.ice1712_playback {
        type dmix
        ipc_key 1024
        slave {
            pcm "hw:M1010"
            period_size 0
            buffer_size 65536
            rate 44100
            channels 10
        }
    }

    pcm.ice1712_duplex {
        type asym
        playback.pcm ice1712_playback
        capture.pcm ice1712_capture
    }

    pcm.ice1712_ch12 {
        type plug
        ttable.0.0 1
        ttable.1.1 1
        slave.pcm ice1712_duplex
    }

    pcm.ice1712_ch34 {
        type plug
        ttable.0.2 1
        ttable.1.3 1
        slave.pcm ice1712_duplex
    }

    pcm.ice1712_ch56 {
        type plug
        ttable.0.4 1
        ttable.1.5 1
        slave.pcm ice1712_duplex
    }

    pcm.ice1712_ch78 {
        type plug
        ttable.0.6 1
        ttable.1.7 1
        slave.pcm ice1712_duplex
    }

    pcm.ice1712_ch90 {
        type plug
        ttable.0.8 1
        ttable.1.9 1
        slave.pcm ice1712_duplex
    }

    Then I can activate them with commands like arecord -D ice1712_ch34 -cd (for example)

    Or do you know another way to activate Input3&4 or 5&6 via ALSA only?

  • I switched from Creative's sound cards to onboard audio when I made the move to Windows Vista. It was a forced move due to the lack of drivers. The onboard audio was good enough by that time, though I did miss the added software that came with the card till I found replacements.
  • I need a PCI express cheap sound-card. Does anyone know some good product?
    Thanks a lot

    Open the extension module of the 1010 and look for broken ICs.
    I successfully repaired a 1010 after buying correct IC in about 10mins and saved €500.
    just go for a try before a new buy!
    cheers

    Hi Yannick
    Yes 24/96 is a good choice
    but you can find a dealer to buy it :

    http://www.m-audio.fr/products/fr_fr/Audiophile2496.html

    it's working really well on Gnu/Linux with a really good sound

    Hi guys,

    Sorry for the late reply, I have not received notification

    What is the IC?

    A repairman told me that it came from the electricity supply, cost of repair 284 $ CAN

    Finally I found an audiophile card 80 $ CAN.

    Thanks
