[campsite-support] Subscriptions module
  • Hi.

I am dealing with a system that has a custom subscription system.
Now we have upgraded to version 2.6.1 and as I am reading through
the documentation, I am wondering about whether there is an automatic
cron type job which will send out reminders and reduced paid days etc
etc. If there is, is it possible to switch it off ?

  • Sorry to disapoint you. It is possible to remove it from the cronjob,
but not on shared environment, because it would remove the job from all
    instances.

  • Hi

How frequently does the cron run and, in terms of subscriptions, what
    does it actually do ?

  • Mugur might be better in explaining, but the standardjob runs each 15
minutes. It checks all subscriptions and those users, that are 14 days
    before expiration are notified.
Than the user is marked up as "already notified" and next run it he is
    skipped.

I am unsure if there is some 2nd level notification in 7 days prior
    expiration.

  • The subscription end notifier runs every 8 hours and sends the following
message to the readers whose subscription will end within 14 days:

    "Dear ,

This is an automatically generated e-mail message. Your
subscription (started on ) to publication will expire
    on (in days).

Please enter the site http:// to update subscription."

  • Some more queries:

What is the algorithm used to calculate when a subscription is about
    expire ?

What are the definitions of 'paid days' and 'days', for the users'
    subscription records ?

As this customized system makes use of the fields on these tables, I
need to make sure that they are set to the correct values...

    days = subscription time
paid days = how many days were actually paid from the subscription time

You may want to set "paid days" = "days" from the beginning; this feature was
implemented with the idea that you can create an inactive subscription which is
not paid yet and after the payment was received you can activate it (set the
paid days to the subscription time). If paid days = 0 then the reader will not
have access to private content. The reader actually has access to the private
content for the period: start date -> start date + paid days.

    Hope this helps,

  • thanks for this ... this probably sounds a bit odd, but here goes ..
is the value in the field 'paid days' exactly that- a number of days ?

so if the system were to grant 10 issues and the time unit was
months, it would add 10*(approx) 30 days ... in the vicinity of
300 .... to the value in 'paid days' and set the start date to today ?

    another question :
does the system automatically decrement 'paid days' ?

sorry about all of these queries ... you can point me to the source
if you like .. or relevant documentation, i have gone through the
manual and the api classes ..

    Yes

No, it doesn't need to decrement paid days because it knows:
    1. the subscription end date: start date + paid days
    2. the current date
When the current date > end date the subscription is over. Paid days is not the
same as days left from the subscription.

It's not documented yet and we will change this system in time, it's 7 years
old and it shows it's limitations.
