I've been trying to make 1.4 beta packages so that people can start
testing it in earnest, but I haven't been able to get the packages to
build. What's particularly odd is that while the development environment
built correctly, the same code failed to make packages.
I filed one ticket, and Frans has filed a couple more related to this in
the last couple of days. The problem seems to be the Gstreamer debug code;
at least that's where the build exited.
I would love to help you with this. I'm revisiting Campcaster as a
scheduler for a grant-funded online radio as part of an arts org in
the states. I haven't installed anything yet because there are so many
versions out there and no Debian repos!
Anyhoo, I'm almost certain I'll need to do some development to get the
features required for the project so I should probably work with SVN
trunk. I'll be writing back with little installation/packaging notes.

Good to hear from you! We could certainly use the help. If you haven't
checked it out already, take a look at the most recent commits; Nebojsa
has the Gstreamer 0.10 port done and from what I've tested, it's pretty
darn speedy, Plus, now that this works on a vanilla Gstreamer install (in
theory, at least), it'll make it possible to use all the other Gstreamer
features (like support for WAV, FLAC and other codecs).

Word up to the gstreamer 0 .10 tip, as my system depends on JACK. I
already have all the Gnome stuff running with the gstreamer-plugins-
really-bad package in Debian testing. Funny name, I know. One downside
is that at least with Rhythmbox, gstreamer leaks memory. Don't know
where the problem lies though and it's not terrible considering I've
been running it for three days and it hasn't dumped core yet
Anyway, I'm excited about the new version. FWIW, I'll be attempting to
implement some of the features of Live365's web-based scheduler and
playlist creator, as well as some statistical reporting. I don't
imagine that'll be too tough, since they don't really offer anything
exceptional. My producers have been using Live365 for years and they
are dependent on the automated playlist scheduling.

That would indeed be great if you were to give some attention to the
playlist making; the web playlist mechanism as it currently stands is
pretty creaky. Actually, now that we have 0.10 going, one of the things it
should enable - with an unknown amount of work - is the scheduled playback
of network streams. That's something we had in the 0.91 release (which ran
on Helix), but we had to pull it when we moved to Gstreamer 0.8.
Also, if you haven't checked it out, go take a look at the developer docs
at http://campcaster-doc.campware.org. If you've got the development
environment installed, it's in the /doc directory locally too. We gave
Akos a pretty hard time about his UML diagrams at the time, but they've
proven to be pretty useful.
Please post here frequently. There are enough of us around who've nosed
around different parts of Campcaster and we might be able to help.
