Provided your server has a sound card or multiple cards,
Campcaster-Station (which is accessed through a web interface) will work
fine on Ubuntu Server, which I understand is simply Ubuntu without all the
GUI stuff. But if you want to use the Campcaster Studio application, you
will need a windowing environment, so there you would need regular
(K)Ubuntu.
There has also been some work done on using Campcaster with the JACK audio
routing software so that you don't even need a sound card; this is useful
for putting a server at a hosting provider and using it to serve streams.
The howto is here: http://code.campware.org/projects/campcaster/wiki/campcasterJack.
Hope this helps,
douglas
