I would like to evaluate Campcaster further and have attempted my first
install. I have followed the recommendation of installing Ubuntu Dapper,
but I am uncertain if I should install the Desktop or Server version. I
have tried the Desktop version and when I attempt to install Campcaster, I
am hit with a bunch of dependencies. So what do I need to install ahead of
Campcaster to make sure it will install on Ubuntu Dapper Desktop? OR am I
going at this the wrong direction and should be installing this on the
server version. Or does it need to be both. Any advice would be
apprectiated.
In general, it helps with these kinds of questions if you specify
exactly what you were trying to do (what did you type if you were
using the command line, which programs/menu options did you click on
if you were using the graphical menu), and if you show us exactly what
went wrong (copy-paste the message from wherever the error occurred).
Without such detailed info, I can only guess. One common problem is
that the Universe repository is not enabled. This contains free and
legal software which are not quite up to the high standards of the GNU
project. Some packages in this repository are needed for Campcaster.
This wiki page explains how to add the Universe repository (very
easy): https://help.ubuntu.com/6.06/ubuntu/desktopguide/C/extra-repositories.html
The wiki page also explains how to add the Multiverse repository; that
is not needed for Campcaster, but it contains some useful stuff
(browser plugins, codecs etc). Note that some of the software in the
Multiverse repository may not be legal in your country.

Thanks for the tip, I will try that next. But back to my question on Ubuntu
Dapper, if I am planning on installing and running Campcaster, which Ubuntu
Dapper should I install, the Desktop version or the server version? Or
should I be running multiple systems, some running Ubuntu Dapper server and
others running Ubuntu Dapper desktop?
According to the website:
*Campcaster Download *
Campcaster only works on Linux operating systems. Dont have Linux? We
recommend Ubuntu Dapper (click there
to download it, then burn it on a CD, put it in the computer and reboot).
So what I am basically asking, can this "recommendation" be more specific?

Use the Desktop (Live CD) version. This is the default, and other
versions are not even directly accessible from the Ubuntu Download
page http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download.
I don't have access to edit the home page. Doug or Sava, please add
more clarification if you agree that it is needed.
