    yes, Adam Hyde showed it to me as well last week. a really really good
    resource on streaming, indeed!!

    Instead of reinventing the wheel with streaming in LiveSupport, is there a
    way we can provide an API that would let users use LS with any number of
    streaming solutions?

    I guess the problem is that most streaming servers don't have an API, or
    do they?

    that API is gstreamer. streaming will be handled by appropriate
    gstreamer elements in 1.1

    these are communication protocolls, not APIs. but of course all of them
    have a protocoll of some sort - some documented better than others. some
    also provide libraries to use, like libshout made by the icecast people.
    but the use of these is optional, the protocols usually are quite simple.
