[livesupport-dev] Full radio station in a single PC
  • I tested an PCI FM transmitter card, which seems to be nice addon for our
    project.

    The card is avaible at
    http://www.pcs-electronics.com/en/products.php?sub=pc_fm_trans
I have older version PCI MAX +, but it seems they have not changed much.

The pcmax card have to be connected to the output of a soundcard (or any
external source). From the PC it will just managed (frequency, power). It
seems to be a network device from the view of the PCI-bus. "cat /proc/pci"
    does contain:
Network controller: Tiger Jet Network Inc. Intel 537 (rev 0).

I experienced with this card on a Debian sarge system with kernel 2.4. I am
pretty sure on 2.6 kernel it will be different.

The install is quite easy. Under linux you would need to compile an
    kernel-module. Sources are avaiable at
    http://www.pcs-electronics.com/software/pcimaxplus/pcmax-0.4.tar.gz. You
need to have the kernel-headers on your system and adjust KERNELDIR in
Makefile to something like /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.27. Than do a "make
clean" to remove already existing binarys which come with the package.
    Follow README than.

Note: I was not able to set it up in a way that kernel modules will load
automatically, like chapter USAGE descripes. There are some "unresolved
    symbols", whatever this means.
You can test the module by "modprobe pcmax". If it doesn

Nice work, Sebastian. What is the name and format of your station, and=20

You can test the module by "modprobe pcmax". If it doesn=B4t produce errors,
you can add "pcmax" to /etc/modules, so it will be loadet during bootup.

Turn on the device by e.g. setting frequenz to 98.5 "pcmax=5Fuser -F 98.5"
Note: Setting transmission power seems buggy. "pcmax=5Fuser -P 0" DOES NOT
turn off the device. Even on 0/7 (see "pcmax=5Fuser -p") HF signal is
generated. Any other value than 0 will set it to 3/7 on my card. Because I
cannot do a real broadcast, don=B4t know if the power is really changed.
Seems "pcmax=5Fuser -F 0" will turn off the device.
