It is possible to install Campsite as non-root but it's more complex and you
will not be able to use all it's features. So I strongly recommend to install
it on a hosting provider which allows root. In case you're interested Ondra
could help you with this, he hosts Campsite based sites.

Some (most?) shared webhosting providers won't allow processes running continuously. I was wondering whether there were any plans about porting the parser to PHP. Shared hosting is nowadays the standard entry point for web publishing (blog providers notwithstanding).
We are planning to port the parser to PHP in version 3.0, due out
sometime next summer. There are people on this list who will gladly set
up a campsite instance for you...let me know if someone doesnt get in
contact with you soon.
