    Hi Thomas,

We have a quick task for you, if you're interested. In your previous mail
you said you have lots of machines you can just wipe for testing. Could
you wipe one of your machines and go with a Knoppix HD install? Here's
    what Michael Aschauer was requesting:

    > what do you think? if (b) you might need to install the system
    environment
    > in prague on a server so that it can be used for testing purposes.

it's probably a good idea to setup a test-environment for the target
install system anyway. so - if keeping with knoppix - we could start
with a fresh original knoppix hdinstall, enable remote access (ssh) and
use it as testing/development system to get it built and run on debian
(and to see what other issues might pop up in this constellation).
later this could be replaced by the actual modified install
    (test)version..

Thomas, could you and Michael please be in contact regarding this test
    environment?

  • Doug,

I would be more than willing to setup a Knoppix HD Install. The
question is the connectivity to the machine doing these builds.

    2 Options:

    a) The network is locked down and NAT'd at the university. So either
    I would have to be doing these builds and tests... or;

    b) I can put a machine at my perminent address on DSL (1.5m/120k
static IP, good service) if needed, it would just require using a non
standard port, because I already have a machine on port 22.

I need a response pretty rapidly if option 2 is required, because I am
not home that often, and I happen to be driving up there tonight, so
I can bring a machine home and setup the Knoppix HD Install (or Debian
    testing?).

Also, what kind of storage space will be needed? Should it have a
    sound card in it?

    Thomas,

It sounds like we've gotten past some of the issues related to Debian, so
our need for a Debian box for testing isn't as great as a few hours ago.
Hopefully we'll hear soon from Michael and Sebastian about their progress.
But for now it looks like we'll be OK without it.

Regardless, if you feel like testing on one of your boxen, feel free. The
more eyes we have on the process, the better. I'll step back now and wait
for word from Michael and the others regarding the installer CD.

I'd say so do. so if it is possible to setup a machine for this (running
ssh on whatever port), I would opt for to do so...

    -Hi,

Michal Hruska is out sick right now, but as soon as he gets back we'll put
him on the reference machine task. We talked about it last week. He's been
in and out for the last couple of days. It'll be on the same virtual
    machine as ls-dev, I presume.

Should we still take up Thomas Dorr's kind offer of setting up a testing
    box?
