I just read Holman's howto on making .deb files with great interest,
partially because the making of deb files seems to be something of a black
art, but also because it's something that's been on my wish list for
Campsite for quite some time.
Holman, I had two basic questions about the .deb package process you
described.
Does this mean the dh-make program also automatically handles
dependencies?
Will we (finally) see .deb packages in the next release?
Either way, it's cool stuff. I only wish it were this easy to make RPMs.
Who knows? Maybe it is too...
well, the howto that i just submitted and you read is the full and
complex process to build the deb package for Campsite, besides it is
not finished (actually published). there will be another howto to do
this, aka the easier one.
dh-make just build the deb environment for the package to be built. i
will add a script that looks for dependencies to the manual.
deb packages are going to be part of 2.7, for sure.
i think that i will be done with documentation by today.
