I am pleased to announce the relase of the beta version of our next major
release, Campsite 2.4.
Major improvements include:
* Ability to attach files to articles (multimedia, PDF, etc.)
* A completely redesigned article input (Article Edit) screen (images,
topics, attachments, and publishing events are now shown and can be easily
added or removed from the screen)
* Article List has been redesigned to show all relevant information at
a glance
* Ability to perform actions on multiple articles at once (akin to
Gmail).
* Improved subscriber management (subscriber list can now be sorted by
full name, account name and creation date).
* API for third party plugins (beta)
* Simplified navigation
* Ability to restart the parser from the admin interface.
* Campsite can now be installed in standard directories without
generating conflicts. The Campsite instance utilities now have globally
acceptable names.
* The template engine starts automatically and it can be restarted
from the user interface.
* Install maintenance binaries into the standard /usr/sbin directory.
* The template engine now displays a message instead of crashing when
it encounters a critical error
We are planning to release the official version on 10 January 2006. To
help us meet the deadline, please install the 2.4 beta on a testing
machine, particularly if you have been planning to upgrade to the 2.3.3
branch. We believe it is good enough for site development purposes and
that is the best beta testing Campsite could receive (we don't expect
major glitches). We would also like to hear your feedback on the new
navigation and Edit Article and Article List screens.
