I have discussed this issue with Mugur. It would be very simple to set
up a RedirectMatch rule on Apache to handle conversions from the 'old
style' URLs to the 'new style' URLs but obviously if the IDs of articles
and publications etc have changed then you will need to hardwire your
redirects.
