First off I would like to say what an awesome automation software!!! I have a few questions. Can shoutcast be used with this? If not is there a reason maybe I should be using the Icecast?
These are more general performance type questions.
Scenario: I have a dj ( currently ) that connects to a shoutcast server in Chicago he is else where, he does a show with turntables and a mixer. He uses nicecast to connect tothe server to broadcast. I currently have some junky automation software running during the times we do not have a live show. part 1 I want to still do that and this will do that right? part 2 since it is icecast when he trys to connect the airtime will pause to let him connect correct? if so will airtime record said djs show aswell?
Thanks in advance!!!
If you need to move this post i understand.
Hi Louis, Airtime can be used with any streaming server by means of an audio cable. If you want a direct connection to Shoutcast without an audio card, this is possible with a small change to the Liquidsoap stream generator:
The main advantage to Icecast is that it's Free Software so you can set up your own independent streaming service. To answer your other questions...
1. Yes, you can accept remote incoming streams to an Icecast server, as long as that server is accessible from the Internet. If the Icecast server is on your studio premises, you might have to open your firewall to allow that, for example using port forwarding.
2. No, Airtime doesn't 'pause' playout while incoming streams connect. The solution is to leave empty time slots in your Airtime schedule for live shows.
3. Yes, Airtime records live shows automatically if you connect a line output on the live desk to the soundcard input on the Airtime machine. You can also record remote streams using a media player, if its output is routed to the line input.
