Airtime physical output goes silent on ogg files
  • I have a fresh install of Airtime 2.5.1 on Ubuntu Server 14.04

Not streaming yet, still have to sort out an error, "Can not connect to the streaming server 401, Authentication Required (HTTP/1.0)". Anyway my main need is the physical output, which so far seems to be working well with .FLAC and .mp3 files, but when 'playing' an .ogg file I get silence.

I found a discussion documenting problems with ogg and streaming (https://forum.sourcefabric.org/discussion/17439/ogg-files-mp3-stream-is-offline-and-silent/p1). One of the posters point to a bug in liquidsoap (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/liquidsoap/+bug/1404657) that says ogg support is broken by the opus plugin.

    I want to try
    sudo apt-get remove liquidsoap-plugin-opus
    but then I get:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
      airtime liquidsoap-plugin-opus
Does that mean removing one plugin also removes Airtime?

  • The streaming error 401 was because I missed forwarding port 8000 to the server. Easy fix.

But physical output is still silent when 'playing' ogg files.

If ogg or opus streaming is 'enabled', streaming AND physical output goes silent regardless of file type in the player.

For now I'll stick with playing mp3 and FLAC, it works for my needs. Leaving the subject UNRESOLVED.
