[livesupport-dev] Helix Library bugs
  • FYI

At last I've got so far as to make the Helix library work. (As a
reminder, Helix is the open sourced version of the Real Networks
libraries, available at https://helixcommunity.org/ . Why we'd use it is
that it understands SMIL files, and can be used as an audio player.)

Unfortunately, there are two bugs in Helix now that prevent us from
having all the functionality needed. Of course I've added them to the
    Helix bugtracker, here they are:

    https://bugs.helixcommunity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3310
    https://bugs.helixcommunity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3311

These bugs basically prevent us from cross-fading any two audio clips at
    the moment.

Yikes. Those sound like showstoppers. Any idea as to when the Helix
developers could get around to fixing them, or if you or Ferenc could
    handle the bugs yourselves?

one of these (or actually a similar one) was reported in the summer, and
is now marked as fixed. so thought it wouldn't be a problem.

anyway, I just reported them, don't know how long it would take for the
Helix guys to fix it. OTOH, there is lots more to do, so we might as
well try to wait it out and see if they fix it in a reasonable time. if
all else fails, we could attack the problem ourselves..

i guess it is a pretty basic functionality that would be needed in version
1.0. but it's also a problem if this basic functionality takes so much time
right now, as we are also behind schedule.

if their bug fixing could run parallel to the development, that would be
    ideal.

    Hi Akos,

If the Helix developers don't get to the bug, and you or Ferenc aren't
able to fix the bug yourselves, maybe an option would be to offer a cash
bounty for fixing each of the bugs. Mark Shuttleworth, rich dude,
astronaut and open source advocate, is doing this for several different
    open source projects (http://www.markshuttleworth.com/bounty.html).

Of course, I'd prefer it if either the Helix people or you and Ferenc got
to it, but I'd hate to have these bugs cut us off at our kneecaps.
