[campsite-dev] the ghost in the tracker
  • killed florian and now killed sebastian.

i had conversation with micz and here is what her have said:
'sebastian is busy starting on a project for the documenta.de which is
supposed to be finished in mid september. so he will be more or less
full time til then, since the livesupport development seems to have held
    him up.'

i'm on my knees, somebody do something or our marketing ppl will
exterminate all my future children. savo, you are used working in
extreme conditions, do your magic, use your stick. really: anyone thinks
he can finish off this monster? any real exorcists out there?

    may php be with you.

i want to add something there. when braja is desparate things always sound
    so harsh.

similar to the work sebastian did on fluter.de with the forum and
phpwrapper, the documenta.de work will hopefully also bring bnefit back to
campsite. for example the print cart with export to pdf function. the work
on this project is ongoing - and sebastian and i agreed that this will be
half of his income from redaktion und alltag. but with the livesupport
development being way over time we are now in a situation where the
documenta project is already under time pressure. with four weeks to go til
the *release* sebastian has to squeeze three months work into the remaining
    time.

the reason i am saying this is: sebastian tried to explain to me that he
can do the tracker work on the side. but i had to explain to him that there
is so much to do for documenta that he has to focus all his time and
attention onto the project or we lose the contract before it really
started. and that would also effect sebastians income... Wink so there really
is little room in terms of sebastian's time. even though he wanted to do
it, i was the one to cut the rope.

idea to the 'print cart' you're mentioning... can you give me some info
    what's going on there?

i don't know what's going on. but we will definately use this as the
foundation for the "export to pdf accumulator". what a good name...

  • What's your planned userbase for that, etc?

I could whip in a bit of HTMLDOC action into printbox without too much
trouble, depends how picture-perfect you were wanting the layout, etc?

We used this (HTMLDOC) on the Shark project and it's proven a reliable
tool for generating PDFs. It's best for text-rich stuff, rather than
tabular data, but that's exactly what Campsite's all about, so I'd site
    it would be right-on.

i was actually hoping you would come to the rescue in the phpopentracker
case, since you have worked with this before. well, what have you not
    worked with yet...?

ask braja. he has the feature list. and the sources are with
sebastian i suppose. so he could give you a short rundown of what is left open.

I was just about to wield my stick, but then I saw Micz online. And we
    discussed a couple of things.

The outcome is, Redaktion und Alltag will use John's print box and once
the extension to PDF comes around (not an immediate priority for
Documenta), either John will extend it, or Sebastian will take over. So
this is not a real issue at the moment. John, we will release the print
box as per current spec as soon as you have it ready.

Regarding the tracker, John, could you please assist Sebastian in sorting
out the trouble, and possibly take over the project (I understand this
Documenta thing is a bit behind schedule). Florian, the original author,
will be there to assist you (Micz will make sure that happens). We'll
discuss details in a separate mail/chat.

I hope this settles the matters and that we will have the Tracker fully
functioning (and even releasable very soon). The same goes for the Print
    Box.
