Airtime So Close ! Just a little help?
  • Would like to do this step by step
    Situation so far
Installed Ubuntu 14.1 = All Good
    went here
    https://www.sourcefabric.org/en/airtime/download/
    next
    http://sourcefabric.booktype.pro/airtime-25-for-broadcasters/easy-setup/
    next
    http://apt.sourcefabric.org/misc/airtime-easy-setup.deb
    achieved this image

    FIRST DIFFERENCE
Mine also says "This program is run from a terminal"

Note the developer Web Site link goes to a 404 error page

The next bit is where I think not only me but others seem to run into a problem
    Your instructions say

"Once the installation of airtime-easy-setup has completed, you can install the latest Airtime package on a desktop system using your usual package manager, such as Ubuntu Software Centre, or Synaptic on Debian."

Does this mean a copy of Airtime package needs to be downloded then opeended by Ubuntu Software Centre?

Is there a log file i can get and upload here to help finish install
I presume we are very close
Is it possible that lovely sounds will soon becoming form the last bus stop called New Zealand?

  • I always recommend using this method

    http://sourcefabric.booktype.pro/airtime-25-for-broadcasters/automated-installation/

The only caveat you have to know is how to install via teminal.

Its like 5 minutes this way(depending on certain conditions)

404 represents no link to the url. but if i am sure i saw a trusty distribution in the airtime repositres.

    Good Luck

  • Ohhhh!!!! So Close!
Folowed your suggestion just got to the bit of configuring airtime and....

    Setting up apache2...
Apache 2.4 detected, using newer access configuration...
sed: can't read /etc/airtime/apache24.vhost.tpl: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing package airtime (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
    Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-10ubuntu2) ...
    Errors were encountered while processing:
     airtime
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
    gnfb@Vostro-400:~$

    any ideas?

LOL so if I didnt feel stupid enough "its like 5 minutes this way" 3 days I have been working on this not all the time granted but. I only will use it for one purpose to run a radio station test to guage interest if it works i will have it setup on a better connection and server
I see a few people have read or looked at the problem you are so far the only one to respond . Am i asking the wrong way or are they saying screw that he hasnt got a clue could take to much time to explain. I also wonder if i started form scratch but with out formatting the drive and reinstalling ubuntu I wouldnt know where to bein to remove what has been done. Oh why could not have been in windows!!!! any suggestions or help welocome or a forget it! :)

  • @graham FB

I am so sorry that you are having so much issues.I hope I can walk you though a bit.

Are you installing on a virtual machine or on a clean or what we called vanilla install (just ubuntu install only).

I will assume you have a clean install because both procedure are almost the same
The procedure i recommended is through using a terminal .You can read more at this link . and can keep it as a sticky and this video .

You can turn off the audio because all you want to know is in 00 to 0.43s of the video.

You will find that linux runs automated and repetitive task far better than windows.
In fact as a developer I found many things are easier to do in linux than windows but thats for another discussion.

So Lets roll up our sleeves cause its some work but once you have the gist of it,its easy.Trust me .It is.

  • Now once you open the terminal type this (you want to clear and remove all configuration files for airtime)

sudo apt-get remove airtime && sudo apt-get purge airtime && sudo apt-get autoremove

It will ask for your password. and then run the procedure.

after its all finished (lets place the repositories in our list of source to get files

    sudo pico /etc/apt/sources.list

The tutorial will say sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list .they are the same command
pico comes as default editor, nano you might have to install

Now follow the rest of the procedure here http://sourcefabric.booktype.pro/airtime-25-for-broadcasters/automated-installation/

Now key things to note is change the source list to your version of ubuntu like here

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ lucid main

    Change the lucid

For Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, and For Ubuntu 14.04 use Trusty

there is no 12.10 Quantal, 13.04 Raring or 13.10 Saucy so do not use them .

If you follow the rest of the procedure you will see the time I recommend is about
    that amount.

Like I said if you uninstall it should reinstall and you will see

    Let me know your challenges.

    Wish you the Best.

Ps. I do not know the intent of others, but I guess most are busy for holidays coming
up so I hope I can make do to take you over the threshold to familiarity

  • Ok this I do not follow

the final line on the screen is

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ lucid main

    You say:-

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ lucid main

    Change the lucid

For Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, and For Ubuntu 14.04 use Trusty

there is no 12.10 Quantal, 13.04 Raring or 13.10 Saucy so do not use them .

    So I change this line

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ lucid main

    to

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/Ubuntu 12.04 Precise

    ??

  • ok I think i see

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ lucid main

    Change the lucid

For Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, and For Ubuntu 14.04 use Trusty

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ Trusty main correct?

my version .14.10 and returns Utopic

deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ Utopic main or should it be this?
  • Ok so I used utopic

    did

    sudo apt-get update

returned a whole load of inf the last few lines

    gnfb@Vostro-400:~$

    did not return

    So what now?

So its lunch time here in NZ I will take a break at that point

  • There is no Airtime Package for Utopic 14.10 therefore you cannot do

deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ Utopic main  #do not do this

Since There is a package for Trusty you could try that instead like this

deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ Trusty main # do this instead

now when you get the public key error you need to sign the package  by running this command
    sudo apt-get install sourcefabric-keyring

    then

    sudo apt-get update

You should not see the error again

    Then install Airtime

    sudo apt-get install airtime

While the script is running it will configure your database and icecast so

Ignore the database setup and Icecast setup as mention in the Manual

Please note my word of caution below

Its best to use the Latest stable in the Case of debian 7 its WHEEZY AND For Ubuntu it is TRUSTY 14.04.

Question You say step back and use version 14.04 of ubuntu I assume there is no easy way to do that other than to wipe the drive and reinstall?

I think I will leave the Ubuntus to the big kids to play with and go try find a sytem that works within my capabilities and understanding of windows. I am sure I read something about shoutcast?

Ok so one last hail mary as you americans say

  • Just so you don't the people in NZ are complete losers (mind you we did give the world Peter Jackson!)
1hour 20mins Icecast /shoutcast/winamp installed and broadcasting Moral of the story use what you know never try to learn anything new.......no that cant be right??
  • You were definitely so close to have turned back.
All you had to do was as i said

There is so much quotes that comes to mind

    like

"The Miracle isn't that I finished,
The Miracle is that I had the courage
    To Start"

"You might have to fight a battle twice in order to win"

"A baby usually gets up when they fall, even though they may cry when they get up,or may be they are shouting 'I did it ' "

"History is just that . History!"

"Failure is success turn inside out"

"You are not a loser, but you might be certainly lost, find your way back home little sheep"

Well with that said, the challenge and solution is still here, sip a beer (or comparable) and wheel and come again.

    Good luck

Hi Graham, thanks for the report of the 404, the website has been moved around recently so I will fix that link.

There are a couple of issues with your /etc/apt/sources.list file. The first is that you should comment out any lines containing the URL:

    http://apt.sourcefabric.org/dists/utopic

because that repository does not exist (yet). The second is that 'Trusty' should actually have a lower case 't', because these URLs are case sensitive. Please edit the line you have added to say only:

    deb http://apt.sourcefabric.org/ trusty main

then save the file and run apt-get update again. That should get you back on track.

    Cheers!

    Daniel
  • Hi,

Had some troubles after my current installation went bezerk on us.
Stumbled upon this thread, and I have to say it helped to fix the problems I encountered when trying to fix my issues.

So thanks again for putting this all here for the lesser experienced like me!
Just wanted to let you know it is helpful and it is appreciated!

I am running Airtime 2.5.1 on Ubuntu 14.10 utopic.

    Best regards,
