    Hi,

    Regarding LAME, yes it is currently used. When an mp3 file is cut, then it
    is also reencoded by LAME afterwards. When i talked to Jonas (who I
    inherited the code from) he said this was done because the cut utility could
    sometimes cause problems in the output file. I was hoping to fix this for
    the 1.7 release by using a different cutter, but we postponed that to next
    release.
