It would be awesome to have control over the meta title, description, and keywords at the section level. Currently all we can do is add a section description.

I just logged in here, to submit my other idea, but since its very similar, I will add it to your topic.
Since Newscoop can be adapted in so many ways, and e.g. keywords can serve in different roles than only meta/SEO thingy, in my current cinfiguration I have this problem that part of my meta code is empty:
<meta name="keywords" content="" />
This is of course article based level, not section as you say, but still it would be nice to add following fields:
meta title
meta description
meta keywords
If left mepty by the user Newscoop could override them by existing title and first 200 signs from the article. Keywords in this case could work like simple tags, adding few extra points to SEO.
See the attachment, it's from stupid Wordpress, but worth inspiring

Good idea. Which reminds me, we need to move all Metatag settings from
general Newscoop settings (System Preferences) into the appropriate places
(publication, section, anywhere else?)

Thanks,
I guess its bloody easy to do for devs
Google is very careful with with duplicated metatags, but we could set it up:
a) general for publication
b) specific keywords for section
c) per article
And then if I dont set up for article it grabs standard from section, if nothing is on section it would take from publication.
We also could try author, but do we have landing pages for authors?

To clarify, the info talks about metadata keyword that is obsolete.
Description metadata is still relevant to search engines,
and most important, is relevant to people who get the description tag appearing as the page sum up on the search result.
