What would you prefer:
* To have the fancy pseudo-popup that is used now, but without
possibility to go quickly between article and map editing.
* To have classical popup windows that are not fancy, but they allow
you to go quickly between article and map editing.

my strong (yet uninformed) opinion, i haven't tried it yet:
a total must have: easy jumping back and forth between article edit
screen and geolocation tool.
here just one use scenario:
i am writing an article on good restaurants in prague.
i have a list of my top ten restaurants and added them to an
article-field in the article edit window.
now i want to add all ten on the map with the geolocation tool.
i can not memorize all streets, so i need to jump back and forth between
article content and geolocation window.
this is why i strongly opt to find a practical solution - and make it
beautiful. not the other way round :)

I agree with Micz. The maps edit window is fundamentally different than the other popups that a site may have; regular work with points of interest (POIs) frequently requires users to switch into the article in order to copy and paste the relevant text into the POI's popup bubble.
Requiring users to open a second tab in order to do this seems a bit much.

Good to have feedback on this kind of UI stuff, it would be great to
hear from anyone using Newscoop in a daily basis.
I would keep it the way it works now for the GA release, then after
getting more feedback (together with what we already got) we could
make a better decision.

Yes, we need to put a hold on these sort of changes for the release. If
something is working we need to keep it frozen, only bug fixes can be
addressed at this point.

Thus we have to solve something here. In fact, the current state is a new
feature added just before the release of RC2. The previous (popup-based)
mode had e.g. 'just popup focusing' under edit-clicking when the popup was
already created (to not loose unsaved changes at the geo-popup). Many things
got changed during last days, and we should decide what should be a viable
and usable mode.

I think everybody interested should play more with the feature first and
then decide. I'd be curious to see what Netgazeti has to say.
It also seems to me that the bug Martin mentions is something that an
upstream fix (Fancybox or the browsers) might take care of soon.
We have a modern UI now, why use a blast from the past (and face popup
blocker issues?). I am sure there would be away to improve the current
approach AFTER the GA release [e.g. we could have text field as the default
POI entry and option to enlarge the map if further specification is
necessary (along the lines of what it looks like after a POI has been added]
