Re: Re: [campcaster-dev] uploading and deleting and vanishing
  • Hi,

Not exactly sure I understand the question, but I've been able to use the
campcaster-import script in conjunction with linked files on a Samba
server and it works _relatively_ well. There is a delay of about a
half-second (maybe less - I didn't exactly time it) as the file is read
from the network location before it is played.

The use case for doing this was a radio station where news reporters were
uploading their files to a central folder on a Samba share, which was also
mounted on the computer Campcaster was using. In this way I was able to
use the campcaster-import script to directly link to files off the central
server, saving disk space on the studio machine. This was also a desired
solution because the Windows computers in the newsroom were able to see
    the Samba server just fine.

In this case, what I was able to do was to first make sure you're running
a server with Samba, then to create a Samba mount point on my studio
computer. There are numerous howtos on the web that explain how to create
    a Samba mount point.

Then with the campcaster-import script, you use the --link command to link
    to the files:

    sudo campcaster-import --link ///// file directory>

This will create network links to the files. But again, be forewarned that
there is a slight lag in the playback; it's up to you and your engineers
to decide if that lag is acceptable or not.

    Hope this helps,

    douglas

    Thank you Douglas,

there was an "aha!" when I read the answer.
Now, still referring to the Storage Server, is there anyway I can set it
to a specific Hard disk in order that when I import files or when someone
remote uploads files and audio, it all refers to one specific drive?

    Thank you for the courtesy

  • Hello Douglas

We were trying to give users their dirrerent privileges. How is this possible directly from the Studio and from the Web?
Trying to assign users to the Admin group, it will only give errors.

Sorry for these basic questions, but... we are trying.

    Thanks

  • Hi, At this point, Campcaster doesn't have a lot of priveleges assigned to users aside from the ability to log in. The main advantage of having separate user accounts at this point is that each user has their own scratchpad. This is something that will need to be worked on; as with many Campcaster features, it's something we want to do and know must be done, but lack the resources to get them all done. Campsite, our web content management system, has a very fine-grained system of user priveleges; there we go one step further, making items visible to users only if they have enough priveleges to perform the action. I could see a similar system working for Campcaster as well. We'd welcome the help in getting to that point.  Best regards, douglas =============================================Media Development Loan Fund=============================================Douglas ArellanesHead of Research and DevelopmentCenter for Advanced Media--Prague (CAMP)Na vinicnich horach 24a/1834, 160 00 Prague 6Czech RepublicTel: + 420 2 3333 5356, Fax: +420 2 2431 5419Mobile: +420 724 073 364http://www.mdlf-camp.nethttp://www.campware.org=============================================http://www.mdlf.org============================================= "" <phorum@code.campware.org>Sent by: campcaster-dev-bounces@netfinity-4.mdlf.org05/17/2007 07:08 PM ZE2Please respond to "The Campcaster Developers' Mailing List" To: campcaster-dev@netfinity-4.mdlf.org cc: bcc: Subject: [Campcaster Development] Re: Re: [campcaster-dev] uploading anddeleting and vanishing Author: AlpenfeltLink:  http://code.campware.org/phorum/read.php?12,5529,5559#msg-5559--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello DouglasWe were trying to give users their dirrerent privileges. • Hi again

I'm writing here to not start other topics.
We are all set. The only thing that we are having difficulty is in getting people to access from remote to campcaster. We have a static domain and IP address but neither of them work with http://IP or domain/campcaster

it should all be right for the web radio works not only in LAN but also in remote. IPs should be right. We have a domain that is redirected to our local IP.

does anybody know how to see out of this?

    many thanks

    Alan
