[campcaster-dev] Howto: Using Campcaster with Jack for direct streaming without a sound card
  • Hi all,

A few days ago Phillippe Drouot of Openradio.info wrote a howto on using
Campcaster with Jack and Darkice for streaming directly from Campcaster
    without a sound card.

We've received numerous requests for this functionality, and we're quite
happy that Philippe has written such an extensive howto for using the
Darkice streaming server with the Jack audio server to do so.

The original article is in French, and can be found at this address:

Peter Whitehead at MDLF has kindly agreed to translate the article into
English, and it is now up on our wiki at this address:

We still haven't tested this solution, so your feedback and experience will
    be most welcome.

    Best regards,

And here I was thinking the source code to gstreamer needed to be modified. From what I understand, using an alsa plugin for a jack output device would mean that /any/ application that can use ALSA can now be a JACK client without adding any code to the application.

  • Hi Lee,

A couple of caveats about the Jack+Campcaster+Darkice howto:

    1) We haven't tested this yet, so your mileage may vary. I'm personally
hoping to get to it in the next few days.

    2) I've heard from some (I even think from people on this list) that Jack
uses a fair amount of CPU, so keep that in mind.

Otherwise, please let us know about your progress,

    doug
