As we get closer to the first release of the 'Radio Package,' which enables
interoperability between Campcaster and the Campsite content management
system, the question comes up again about what it would take to migrate
Campcaster's storage server to MySQL.
Doing so would have obvious benefits for interoperability with the other
projects - not to mention ease of installation - but I'm not sure whether
this is even possible (if I recall correctly, we need Postgres'
transactionality, but MySQL has been making progress on this front).
Can someone - maybe Tomas, Paul, or Holman - give me a better idea of the
kind of work involved?
Migrating Campcaster to MySQL is a medium-sized task, lots of work, but
there arent really any unknowns to it.
It also depends if we want to keep postgres as a supported database or
not. If so, this increases the work a good bit (a couple extra weeks).
If just moving to MySQL, this is relatively easy. I would estimate 2-3
weeks probably.
