I've been trying various playlists with different times, trying to
understand what affects the time it takes to load a SMIL playlist. Here's
what I've tried so far:
Name Contents Duration Load time
==========================================================================================
jingles 4 items 1:03 0.88s
jingles playlist 10 items 2:39 2.33s
one-hour playlist 12 items 1:01:38 2.98s
one-hour playlist #2 13 items 1:01:49 3.2s
one-hour playlist #3 10 items 56:50 2.549s
one big file playlist 1 item 1:02:55 0.30s
monster playlist 6 items 6:17:29 1.59s
(note: all items are the same single file)
monster playlist #2 5 items 5:20:59 1.33s (note: all
items are different files)
embedded playlist 10 items, 1 PL 3:42 3.43s (note:
jingles playlist items + jingles PL)
combined playlist 2 PLs 36:33 8.22s (note:
playlist made up of 2 PLs, 'Koop Islands' (33:54), the other 'jingles
playlist' (2:39))
Also, it's interesting to note that when a playlist is being loaded, CPU
load jumps to 100 % for the duration of the load time. Another interesting
note is that while there is some slight discrepancy in the load times,
playlists generally take a consistent amount of time to load.
All the playlists have been uploaded to the network hub at 62.44.9.210 if
you'd like to test them.
