Hi Bartje, Thanks for your question about Campcaster. Shuffle and random play is one of the most-requested features we have. We currently do not have this capability, but with the help of users like yourself and others we could probably get it together relatively easily. Campcaster is a community effort, which means that we only have features that people like yourself either make or pay to have made. Hopefully with your help we can get this and other features up and running; I know there's a need for them. I really like to use campware but if we can't shuffle the people from the radio never want to use is.Kind regards,Bartje--Sent from Campware Forumshttp://code.campware.org/phorum
Hi,
Thanks for you're replay
I'd like to help develloping this software. I will try to create some features but don't aspect them to soon because I have less time and I have to discover the program and the source first.

The Development Environment should run on Hardy. Frans van Berckel
(fransman on the IRC) has been making changes to a few scripts that should
allow it to boot; I have it up and running myself.
As far as features go, any and all development work you're willing to
contribute is greatly appreciated. Sorry if I seemed a bit cranky in my
last mail. We get a lot of people interested in freeloading off our
efforts and are even as bold as to complain that it doesn't do everything
that a commercial software product does. But when it comes time to
contribute anything to the effort, they disappear.
If you're going to start digging into the Campcaster code, a good resource
to check out is the developers' documentation at http://campcaster-doc.campware.org. That has a few UML diagrams and some
more detailed notes about which components do what.
Hope this helps,
douglas

That's a good question about the shuffle play. It really depends on how
elaborate or simple the functionality would be. A couple of years ago we
were contacted by a potential client who not only wanted shuffle, but the
ability to import from playlist generating programs like Powergold.
With all the bells and whistles, it was in the tens of thousands of dollars
to hire programmers to do what that client wanted. But I'm sure that it
could be less if the requirements were more modest. Also, from my own
standpoint, I'd be less interested in the cash at this point as I would be
in actually getting the code - meaning that if someone were to either
program it themselves or hire their own programmers, that'd probably be
better all around.
While it sounds like a big investment, it's also something that would save
stations a lot of time and money once it was built. But the hard part is
getting people to make that first commitment - it's a lot easier to sit and
wait for someone else to make the first move.
I hope this answers your question, and hope it hasn't put you off your
idea. Shuffle and smart playlists are definitely something we want in
Campcaster, and sooner, rather than later. But to do them right would
probably be take a lot of work.
Here are a couple of the tickets we've filed in Trac for feature requests:
