[campcaster-support] Play list size
  • Just trying to figure out how big of playlist We can make and also if
play list size is directly related to the amount of ram in the
computer. We seem to crash often. Also lost the ability to get into
Campcaster from the computer only web works now. Don't know what
caused that. What is the best kind of computer for running
Campcaster. We are looking for a reliable system since the server is
up on the top of a mountain and takes about 2 hr to do a round trip up
there. Anyone running Campcaster in VMware??

  • Hi Warren,

At least in the current release (1.3, released in October), playlist size
is definitely related to CPU speed; the faster your CPU can parse the
playlist and preload its elements for smooth playout, the better. We
recommend keeping playlists under 2 hours.

The 1.4 release, which is coming soon - we hope to have a set of beta
packages ready for testing in the next few days if all goes well - is
likely to change that 2hr limit but we haven't tested that yet, so we can
make no claims. If you're interested in getting started testing before
that, though, there are instructions for installing the 'development
environment' version up on our wiki at this address:
    http://code.campware.org/projects/campcaster/wiki/DevelopmentEnvironment

As for going up the mountain, is there any chance you can get a
directional wifi connection up there? That might save you a trip.

    Hope this helps,

    douglas

  • as for up on the mountain we have wifi. Just trying to get away form
having a studio and having to stream our audio up there. Just works
best for us right now in the future we may have to go that rout. We
are a LP station and we want to automate our night and most of our day
programing. that is why a easy way to just automate some of that
progaming up at the site works for us.

I will look into the Development bata and give it a try... Ill let
    you know what I find
