Any Ubuntu distribution from Dapper forward will work fine with
Campcaster. I personally like Ubuntu Studio because of its applications
and the low-latency kernel seems to make audio apps more responsive. But
it's not required.
Here's where the CPU speed and hard disk are important: When you have
playlists that are longer than 1 hour, it takes the CPU longer to process
all of the files inside the playlist; this can take a few seconds, and if
it does, then your schedule is thrown off by those few seconds, meaning
that your playlist gets cut off. One solution is to keep playlists under 1
hour if possible, and definitely under 2 hours. This behavior should be
tested with your hardware, though.
Mark Kretschmann is hard at work making Campcaster work with Gstreamer
0.10, which we hope will remove a lot of the latency problems we've been
seeing. This is planned for the next release, which if all goes well
should be out by the end of the year.
As for the Lao translation, that's fantastic! Here is a page with
instructions for localizers:

Thanks Douglas! Ok your ref computer is great, what about linux distro?
Ubuntu Studio?
I've been trying to run it on my (normal) ubuntu lappy but the sound
stutters and gasps. I'm guessing it's due to the onboard intel hda
controller.
Does campcaster need all the low-latency spec to work properly?
I'll let you know as soon as we get it up and running.
OH yeah, almost forgot. we're going to translate the whole application to
Lao. Is that cool with you guys? Any translation pointers?
