i'll try to make it short.
First of all thanks to people developping that software.
Secondly, sorry if the issues raised here have an answer somewhere
but i don't think.
I work as a music programmer in an associative radio in france,
and am looking for a broadcasting soft under linux.
Campcaster is the one which is the closest to my needs,
and i was (and still am) really enthusiast at running it.
So I'm currently testing it hopefully it'll be operational to me.
After reading this forum, i got a successful install on Ubuntu Studio,
then mass-imported (script with -link option) 800 mp3 files located
on a Windows shared folder (mounted in /media/winshare). Got alright,
then i tried to make a playlist, it was possible but the search engine
("browse" tab) was *really* slow.
I thought it was because of using a distant folder accessed by too many
others things, so i tried another mass import (-link option)
with another directory (470 files) on my local computer this time. It doesn't
seem to increase the search speed.
Btw, all my "search" actions are performed with "local storage" selected,
not "network hub" (this later one being unused in my personal case).
There also seems to be a strange issue, always in "browse" tab,
i use the first field to search by genre, and the second by artist.
The "artists" list seems not to be able to display more than 24 entries?
Has someone experienced such slowness or shall it be due to a local problem?
I would also like to make some comments that, accordingly to my way of working,
would greatly improve the every-day usability of Campcaster (Studio, i mean).
My needs for playlist creation/editing tasks are based on two facts:
1- i have to work fast. really. scheduling 24/7 quiet alone, among other time consuming tasks.
don't want an automation software, a machine is not a dj.
2- i have the entire music base in my head so when i think of a particular file
the software should allow me to add it to the current playlist in a glance.
My main tool in campcaster studio is "search" > "browse" by genre.
>> the results should come in a single page. i mean, i see Cage but i want Zorn,
only then Cage, then Mori, and Zorn again. it's really faster to browse an entire category
with the single mousewheel.
>> could there be a kbd shortcut for "add to playlist" ?
>> is it possible to schedule a playlist containing one file (recorded show)
every week at the same time and leaving it there, after which i'll just have
to update the file, keeping the same filename? The duration may change a bit.
I'll try to test that as soon as possible and tell you.
that's all for the moment ^^
i'm sorry if this seems negative, but i'm trying this software as if i should
use it every day in an efficiency manner (which i hope will happen someday).
sorry for my bad english, too, and for having being that long.
keep up the good work!
