    Hm. You might want to check to see where ALSA is putting your sound cards
    with this command:

    cat /proc/asound/cards

    This will return you a list of the cards available and more importantly,
    their addresses. It will look like this:

    0 [YMF724F ]: YMF724F - Yamaha DS-1 (YMF724F)
    Yamaha DS-1 (YMF724F) at 0xfeaf8000, irq 185
    1 [ICH5 ]: ICH4 - Intel ICH5
    Intel ICH5 with ALC655 at 0xfebffa00, irq 209
    2 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 - CA0106
    Live! 7.1 24bit [SB0410] at 0xbc00 irq 169

    the numbers at the front are the important ones. Find which number has been
    assigned to the Delta card and use that in your setup. The way ALSA assigns
    things is like this:

    hw:x,0

    where x is the number of the sound card. I think the second number denotes
    which channel it uses (or is it analog vs. digital - I can't remember off
    the top of my head).

    If that doesn't work, try to play something using XMMS through the Delta.
    It might be that there's another app that's hogging that card.

    Note the dot at the front of ".campcaster/campcaster-studio.xml". In
    the File Browser, you need to go to View --> Show Hidden Files to show
    these.

    Or you can start Studio and go to Options --> Sound, and set the sound
    devices there. (You can test the devices with the Test button; after
    you set them, click OK, exit Studio, and start it up again.)

    thanks for your help. as of yet, i can't get campcaster and the sound cards to acknowledge each other. i have tried all of the suggestions. when i hit the test buttons - no sound at all. when i try to move songs from the scratchpad to live mode - they go over to teh live mode window. then in "live mode" i hit play and the song blinks in the upper window then disappears. if i hit preview, sometimes it will show an error message that it can't start the audio.

    Let's try to troubleshoot this: Are other applications able to play audio?
    For example, using Totem or XMMS, can you play a file and hear it? If not,
    the problem is probably either with the way the sound cards are set up
    overall for your system, not just in Campcaster.

    If the other programs are able to play sounds, take a look at the way they
    are set up; for example, in XMMS, is it using ALSA or OSS for its sound
    management? What are its settings?

    Also, please type this command:

    cat /proc/asound/cards

    and in the next mail, send what it returns.

    thanks for responding. due to chinese new year and recess, i have not been in my office to check things. i can say that when i go to play an audio file - linux launches "movie player" i think it is called as the default. i then can hear audio. although it is not perfect. as i recall, i hear it moreso in one ear than another... and it is thru the m audio card. i have tried to follow directions to get campcaster to recognize the cards, but it did not work so far.
