    Hi all,

I had the pleasure of doing a demonstration of LiveSupport for a number of
Serbian radio stations today, and the feedback was generally positive.

Most are using cracked versions of commercial playout/automation packages
(which shall remain nameless), so most of the concepts were familiar.

They liked playlists in live mode, and also liked the web interface, which
    they said they'd definitely use.

In terms of requested features, here are a few of the things they said
they'd need before considering a switch:

    - Satellite integration. I believe Frans has posted this as a feature
request, and Micz has reported something similar - as will likely Akos -
in that LiveSupport will probably have to add a new type of audio input,
in addition to sound files and web streams, to allow input from
satellites. The input would come from the line in on the sound card, but
would be an object scheduled like any other; when the scheduler is handed
the object, it simply switches input to the line in on the sound card for
the time allotted. When it has reached the end of the duration, it moves
to the next item in the schedule. The use case for this is that one
station switches to Radio Free Europe via satellite for a set amount of
time - maybe for the news, maybe for a four-hour block overnight - but
then goes back to its own programming.

    - Advanced playlist editor. One of the participants asked about whether
LiveSupport has a feature like one of the commercial packages (which shall
remain nameless) in that they can add notes to a file, and when the file
gets to the point in playback where the note has been place, the note
appears on the screen. They use it to provide warnings to DJs that a song
is about to end, or that they can talk over a song until the note appears.

  • Doug,

    About satellite
This sounds like to do, (its server - back office based) watch out -
live mode does not handel the schedule for real.

Is it a idea to ask Radio Free Europe how other station go on with this.
Any idea how they handel with local ad's.

Do they have a tool available we can port to linux ? rfe is be a us
    government organization ?

    About Advanced playlist editor
but we have downcounters planted, like on your cd player
the text is be what you have in mind some day a go

    Hi Frans,

It's not just about RFE, but about satellite feeds in general. Many radio
networks use these, not just RFE.
