    Hi all,

I've been thinking for some time about a tool for LS that would let on-air
talent organize their thoughts, and I think the idea is coming together.

The idea would be something similar to this tool, called OmniOutliner Pro,
which uses an outliner interface (think of what PowerPoint or OOo Impress
uses for making slides), but one that lets you also put audio clips
    inline.

    http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnioutliner/pro/

The interface then would look something like our current simple playlist
editor, but would have the added functionality of individual text objects
that could be placed between the clips. The advantage for on-air personnel
is that they would open up this window and have literally everything they
needed for putting together a broadcast, including their in-studio talking
    bits.

Maybe this is what Dave Winer's up to with his OPML editor?

What do you think if we create a user case for a tool like this. It make
it easer to have a clear topic to discus about a show pre- preparation
tool like this. I like to have one.

If it's ok Robert and i can write one (or two).

A use case will definitely be in order. As will getting out of the ton of
UI fixes and things still left to do in the runup to 1.1. So this is for
    sometime in the future.

Anyway, here's a screenshot of how one radio reporter uses OmniOutliner
for his podcasts (from iloveradio.org). What he does is writes his
notes/script outline, and then adds the clips into the outliner. Then he's
able to trigger the clips as he reads the script/outline he's put
together. The whole thing gets recorded as a single file, although I think
he's using TotalRecorder or its Mac equivalent to do that.

  • Sorry maybe i misunderstood what you mean with the advantage for
    on-air personnel.

What i have in mind is not be putting your show notes in line they do,

but getting a tool where you put and share all the information you grab
in a week. You are doing in a tree hour show on Saturday morning, with
tree guests, doing two live telephone interviews and one recorded , need
background information on bands playing, all timed and written out and
    printed on paper now.

If you put this in a add on thats an advantage for on-air personnel.
