but i successfully uploaded an mp3 through the gui, added it to the
playlist, but when i try to save the playlist as "Ben's Playlist" i get

    cannot execute XML-RPC method 'locstor.savePlaylist'

    pressing save again prints out

    savePlaylist() called without editPlaylist()

and then when i close the playlist window, and it asks me to save, i
click no, and the whole thing crashes. however, after trying again and
saving the playlist as "lk" it appears to have saved fine. weird.

i wish i had the time to start digging in at the code. i gotta plug in
some speakers to see if i can get this thing to make some sound.

    Hi Ben,

Congratulations on the install. I think this is the first confirmation
outside the core developers. Akos, Ferenc, Tomas and Sebastian have spent
many long hours getting all the various parts to come together just so, so
I'm glad to get some word from outside that it really works as it should.

I've been noticing similar errors when trying to upload files from
LiveSupport Studio. What's odd is that they're intermittent.

Things for now tend to go a lot smoother through the web interface, which
you can get to by opening:

    http://localhost/livesupport/

Another tip I'm not sure if we've documented well enough is Tomas' mass
import script, which is a real time saver. It's in
    /opt/livesupport/usr/bin/import.sh and then you do:

    ./import.sh -d

Provided your files don't have odd metadata (sometimes there are strange
characters in the ID3 tags and that's giving the script some grief, bug
1415 has been posted on it today), they'll import all at once, saving you
the time of inputting all your files one by one. LS imports all your
metadata, btw, and adds a few new tags for talk and news radio. You can
see those in the 'talk' tab when you upload files in the web interface.

Considering that it's still pretty early days, and you may be
uninstalling/reinstalling, I don't know if I'd dump several gigs worth of
files in there yet using the mass import tool, but still.

Another tip is this: make sure you know which sound cards are on which
/dev/dsp assignments. You can check that by doing:

    cat /proc/asound/cards

and then it'll give you the cards' info and their assignments. Then you
can change the sound card assignments in
    /opt/livesupport/etc/gLiveSupport.xml for LS Studio and
    /opt/livesupport/etc/scheduler.xml for LS Station.

We're still using the OSS naming conventions because, for whatever
reasons, using ALSA-style "plughw:0" doesn't work. Not sure why, but
hopefully Akos will have an answer for us shortly. Anyway, we're using OSS
emulation under ALSA, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Looking forward to more feedback from you. If you haven't done so, please
sign up for an account and start posting bugs at http://bugs.campware.org.
