    Hi all,

    I'm back from California, still surprisingly jet-lagged but ready to
    return to work.

    Can you all please give me an update on where we are? I see we're still on
    RC1; any idea of when we could come out with the real 1.0?

    Akos, do we have recent Debian builds?

    I'm about to finish revamping our compilation system. basically the
    whole compilation (including the external libraries we used) is about to
    be autoconf-based, so that the target directory can be specified at
    configuration time.

    the problem with the debian packaging was that it sort of assumes that
    the packages are autoconf-compliant. as we compiled our external
    libraries into livesupport/usr at first, and then copied them to the
    installation target directory, some references remained to the original
    directory they were build in, which broke some things (expecially
    gstreamer, as it hardcodes compile-time target directories into itself)

    OK. Thanks for the update, Akos. Does it make sense to make Debian=20
    packages before this is ready?

    OK. Any idea as to how long that'll take? I'm eager as ever to get the=20
    latest version up and running.
