[livesupport-dev] sound level animation is here for gstreamer
  • tonight I finished the sound level animation feature in gstreamer. we
    have support for:

    - mp3 files
    - ogg vorbis files
    - SMIL support with:
    - parallel file playing
    - embedded SMIL files
    - sound level animation (fades)

with this, we have all the features we need for 1.0 by gstreamer.

For sample SMIL files, see modules/gstreamerElements/var/ . I have
written a GstreamerPlayer for the PlaylistExecutor module, but haven't
committed it, as compiling gstreamer wasn't working on Mandrake and Debian.

so the question now is, if we still want to go with helix for 1.0, or we
want to make the gstreamer libraries compile properly on Mandrake and
    Debian...

akos, you never stop to amaze us Smile

tonight being the night of all nights for the 1.0 release the question is
up to you to answer. i guess we all would love to see gstreamer being in
1.0 but does the afternoon allow you to test it properly for the release?

also: we need (soon) the debian packages for the installer CD. of course,
this will not happen tonight, but next week the installer CD for 1.0 should
be finished and made available for download.

michael aschauer is back in vienna and has been alerted. i promised to give
him an update of the time table. so what is your estimate?

Smile well, it would've been faster if not for those stupid bugs in
    gstreamer...

this is also a question for Ferenc, as he'd have to remove the
workaround put in place because helix didn't handle sound level animation.

we've been struggling to make gstreamer compile on Debian for some time.
I started to work on the issue on our demo system. the problem mainly is
that on the system there are older gnome-related libraries, and we have
a set of newer versions, but the gstreamer build refers to both of them
for some reason - and there comes a version conflict.

in short, I don't think it's feasible to test it thoroughly until
tomorrow morning, as we won't get it to compile until later today on
Mandrake in the first place (and that's when Ferenc can start to get rid
    of the helix-related workarounds).

also, the installation process has to be updated a bit to reflect the
    changes in configuration files.

as soon as we get it to compile, the installer CDs will not be that
difficult. some configuration issues will have to resolved, but that's all.

    I'll know more later today...
