    Hi,

We'd like to go ahead the setup of test environment for LS, and would like
to ask what will be necessary for it:

    - Does the server need one sound card or two? Or should we send sound to
/dev/null ? Can we run the server on the VMWare virtual machine? I'm
assuming we can, but would like to confirm with you.

    - The studio machine (the one running the GUI) will need two sound cards
for live mode, correct? I'm assuming this should be on different hardware
    than the server, correct?

    - Should both machines be running Debian, or Knoppix HD? Should we set
    this up or should Michael?

    - Does Michael need a development environment here, or will he work
locally? Or is Sebastian's Debian setup going to serve as a test
    environment?

    - Are there other requirements we should take into consideration?

Please get back to us, as we'd like to help you as quickly as possible.

if you want to test scheduling, it needs one audible sound card (not a
    null sound device)
if you want to test the live mode on the same machine, it will need two
cards. (or is there a test separate machine for the client?)

oh, so there is a separate machine for the client. great! yes, two sound
    cards..

I would prefer the test environment to match as far as possible to the
finally cd-installer installed product, which is a knoppix hd install at
    the moment.

mostly locally, so it should (hopefully) be enough to have the test
    environment in place.

Another remark about knoppix, I was just thinking about and hope you are
aware of (which is not really important in live-cd mode, but I do not
want to hide when directing towards an installed version):
knoppix is in fact kind of a snapshot release of debian (mostly
testing .. but also a couple of unstable packages, one could possibly
get rid of). whereas it comes very handy and easy to install this
system, it might turn out not to be that (first)user-friendly in keeping
the system uptodate and security patched (as opposed to - let's say -
    debian stable) ...

    best,
    m
