[livesupport-dev] installer system
  • michael,

one question from the developers: is it possible to use a different system
for the installer CD? the reason being that so far the system was built on
mandrake, gentoo and red hat. first attempts to compile the current version
    on debian sarge have failed.

    so we need to decide

    a) use one of the above systems for the installer CD solution
    b) change the development system to what you have in mind

what do you think? if (b) you might need to install the system environment
in prague on a server so that it can be used for testing purposes.

I am sure there are these possibilities, but honestly I cannot offer
    many experiences therefor..

basically this would be debian sarge (aka testing)
I also think it would be important that it builds and runs there anyway?

it's probably a good idea to setup a test-environment for the target
install system anyway. so - if keeping with knoppix - we could start
with a fresh original knoppix hdinstall, enable remote access (ssh) and
use it as testing/development system to get it built and run on debian
(and to see what other issues might pop up in this constellation).
later this could be replaced by the actual modified install
    (test)version..

  • I think you should use gentoo because of the very good documentation and the reliability ....
